"Noah and the Flood"

Pastor Akin began by reading Genesis 6:5-8, which describes God's grief over human wickedness and His decision to destroy the earth while showing favor to Noah. He explained that this story reveals three truths about God's character. First, God grieves when we sin - not because He makes mistakes, but because like a loving parent, His heart breaks when His children make harmful decisions. Second, God punishes sin because He is perfectly just, comparing this to necessary discipline from loving parents or consequences in society. Third, God rescues us from sin, noting that the same God who grieves and punishes also provides the way of salvation through Noah's ark as a picture of rescue.
