"A Prophet Greater Than Moses"

Jul 23, 2023    Pastor Tim Akin

Pastor Akin began by comparing Moses to a celebrity for the Israelites, describing him as their rescuer, lawgiver, mediator, and prophet all in one. He explained that Moses was so revered that God hid his bones to prevent the Israelites from worshipping them. The pastor then focused on Moses' prophecy in Deuteronomy 18 about God raising up a prophet like Moses whom the people must listen to. Akin identified this prophet as Jesus Christ, connecting it to New Testament passages like the Transfiguration where God commanded the disciples to "listen to him." He emphasized that all humans have a rebellious nature inherited from Adam and Eve, making obedience to authority difficult. The sermon concluded with the application that Christians must submit to the Bible as Jesus' authority by obeying it completely, making it their "first, foremost and final authority" rather than emotions, tradition, or culture.

In this message:

Moses was like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr and Billy Graham all wrapped up into one person for the Israelites. The promised prophet greater than Moses is Jesus Christ, who speaks God's words perfectly. All humans have a desire for rebellion woven into the fabric of who they are from Adam and Eve's sin.To reject the words of Jesus is to reject God, and His words have Divine Authority. The Bible must be our first, foremost and final Authority in life, not emotions, tradition, or culture.
