Be Courageous

Pastor Akin taught from the well-known story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego facing King Nebuchadnezzar's golden image. He emphasized that this was not a children's story but a real account of brutal consequences for faith. The king erected a 90-foot golden statue and commanded all officials to worship it when music played, threatening death in a fiery furnace for refusal. When the three Jewish men refused to bow, they were given a second chance but maintained their conviction, declaring God could deliver them but even if He didn't, they wouldn't worship the idol. The king threw them into the superheated furnace, but God protected them, and a fourth figure appeared with them. Pastor Akin applied this to modern idolatry, explaining that idols are anything we put in God's place - family, finances, success, or possessions. He challenged the congregation that Christians must pick a side and cannot ride the fence, calling especially for courageous men of conviction.
