Journey

The pastor began by reading Luke 24:44-49 where Jesus tells his disciples that everything written about him in the Old Testament must be fulfilled. Using the analogy of his family's 25-day cross-country trip, he introduced a church-wide journey through the Bible. He explained four key questions: why take this journey (the Christian life is a marathon requiring biblical foundation), where are we going (through the whole Bible focusing on major characters and themes), how will we get there (Sunday services, Sunday school, and a new church app with reading plans), and how long it will take (as long as needed with planned breaks). The pastor summarized the Bible as 'a real story about a real God seeking to redeem real people from real brokenness in a real world.' He outlined the Bible's four movements, beginning with creation where God is the sovereign king and humanity is made in his image to serve as under-kings with dominion over creation.
