The Advent of Hope

Nov 30, 2025    Pastor Phillip Morris

Pastor Morris began the Advent season by examining Jesus's genealogy in Matthew 1:1-17. He explained that Matthew was written primarily to Jews to prove Jesus was the Messiah, connecting him to David and Abraham through whom God made kingdom promises. The genealogy serves as more than just a list of names - it demonstrates God's faithfulness across generations and His ability to work through imperfect people. Morris highlighted how the genealogy includes broken individuals like Abraham (who lied), Jacob (the deceiver), and others with moral failures, yet God used them in His redemptive plan. This provides hope that God can use anyone, regardless of their past failures, to accomplish His purposes.

In this message:

God chooses imperfect people to complete his perfect purpose. The genealogy links Jesus to significant people showing God's promises concerning life.Every name in the genealogy holds a message of hope and shows we all matter to God.Hope can be found even when we feel lost because God is unwavering in his presence throughout all generations.Matthew was written to convince Jews that Jesus was the Messiah and King through Old Testament connections.
